Ecumenical Partnerships

The community at Mountview doesn't exist for its own sake -
we try to reach out to the community around us by partnering with other churches across the City of Whitehorse, both with other denominations and UCA - to help those in need

Whitehorse Ministry Leaders

Our ministers have for decades been a member of the local district's ecumenical ministry group, often coordinated by the Priest and staff of St Johns Catholic Mitcham.  The major annual events include the Good Friday March along Whitehorse Road from Nunawading to Mitcham, supported by Victoria Police Nunawading Traffic Operations Group, with large numbers of participants from all local churches.  The other is the combined World Day of Prayer Worship service, which is hosted by a different local church each year.   The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic significantly disrupted or deferred such ecumenical activities.

Whitehorse Churches Care

Mountview congregation is a member church of this ecumenical organisation.
This organisation developed during 2019 with the initial goal of providing winter shelter for the homeless, based upon the well known and successful 'Stable One' concept in neighbouring municipalities.
With most of the churches across the City of  Whitehorse enthusiastically joining, planning was fully underway to begin this new mission for the winter of 2020.
Unfortunately the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in deferral of this new mission.

Focus then shifted to what was possible to help the needy and to uplift our community during the pandemic...

The following highlights are in order of 'most recent' at the top...

Easter Appeal 2021 with Whitehorse Churches Care and Whitehorse Police is now on.  Contact Centre 81, or Jill Kidd for further details.
For Christmas 2020, the 'City of Whitehorse' partnered with the churches across Whitehorse to share a blessing and uplifting video to convey Christmas messages; plus they authorised approved carol busking at local shopping precincts.
Public on-demand access to the full 35 minute 'Christmas Blessing' special was only licenced until the end of  2020.  Members can request private access to view the video in 2021 by emailing a request to our webmaster.  Nearly all of the individual music-videos included in the special remain publicly available and are included in our Christmas Playlist: Mountview Advent / Christmas Hymns Playlist
In conjunction with local members of the Victoria Police, Care Packages (Food Hampers) are prepared then distributed (safely by the Police) to the most needy in our communities in time for Christmas 2020.  Our Centre 81 helped collect donated goods and to create these care packages.
Here's the video of distribution day: >>>
Using virtual technologies, the churches contributed to creating a Blessing video for all church members and for the entire community across the city.
The initial 'Whitehorse Blessing' video, made during the peak of the pandemic and Stage 4 Lockdown, is here. <<<
