COVID Future Rules

This page is a recent extension of our COVID vs Church - INFO page that has been providing current (& past) advice.

Here we provide guidance from the Victorian State Government about potential future changes to restrictions and the implications for churches.

When possible, the latest versions are loaded here (at top of listing: yyyy.mm.dd).

Note: The increase in people gathering as restrictions ease will result in increasing new infections.
Future Lockdowns remain possible; plus some restrictions are expected to remain in place indefinitely -
e.g. mask wearing for some specific settings indoors and public transport; being fully-vaccinated; QR Code check-in; recommended mask wearing when social distancing cannot be maintained; etc.

The information below also includes reopening checklists and cleaning requirements

Impacts upon Religious Ceremonies (updated)

National Plan Phase B : 70% fully vaccinated 16+ years : ~ from Fri 22 October:
Indoor ceremonies: up to 20 fully vaccinated, DQ4 (#1)
Outdoor ceremonies: up to 50 fully vaccinated at DQ4;
Unknown vaccination status (#2) : indoors up to 10 cap at DQ4; outdoors up to 20 cap at DQ4

National Plan Phase C : 80% fully vaccinated 16+ years : ~ from 6 pm 29 October:
Indoor ceremonies: fully vaccinated at DQ4;
Outdoor ceremonies: fully vaccinated at DQ2 and up to 500 cap;

Unknown vaccination status: up to 30 cap at DQ4.

National Plan Phase D : 90% fully vaccinated 12+ years : ~ from Fri 19 November:
Density and capacity limits are removed for the fully vaccinated.

Important Observations:
* If vaccinated status cannot be confirmed (with evidence), then much tighter restrictions apply.

                (#1)  DQ4 = Density Quotient of 1 person per 4 square metres; DQ2 = DQ of 1 person per 2 sqm
                (#2)  Unknown vaccination status = unknown, lack of evidence, and or not yet fully vaccinated

Impacts for other-than Ceremonies (updated)

* For members non-worship work (e.g. meetings, etc), the rule was "must work from home if you can" from 6 pm, Friday 29 October (Phase C).  If you cannot work from home, then must be fully vaccinated.  The rule 'work from home' ended Fri 19 Nov when Phase D target met, but fully-vaccinated requirement continues.
* For community facilities use - all must be fully vaccinated and vaccination status requirements remain.

Some restrictions to help us be 'COVIDSafe' are long term, due to aggressive variants like Delta.
TIPS: Remember to consult multiple health advisories to properly determine circumstances; for example people are not recommended to be closer together for activities with greater risks, such as singing or sport.
